Creating innovative software solutions, where there are none, has been part of our story since the beginning…welcome to our story.
It’s 1968. Dr. Bob Canterbury works for Northeast Louisiana University (NLU) as a professor of computer programming.
Computer programming, at that time, was the new, glorious, gateway to the future (we argue it still is). So, the infinitely energetic Dr. Bob launches a consulting business and names it Applied Information Management Sciences (AIMS).
Fast forward to 1975. Dr. Bob’s nephew, Mike Waller, needs accounting software for his Shell Oil jobbership, Waller Petroleum.
None exist. So, he calls the only computer programmer he knows, Dr. Bob, for help. Without skipping a beat, Dr. Bob writes the accounting software, himself. It takes him a year and it’s worth the wait. (And well, it takes time to write complex multi-featured programs. We should know.)
By 1976, Dr. Bob successfully creates the first jobber accounting software, which not only revolutionizes the wholesale petroleum industry, it also makes him extremely popular.
He names it the Complete Oil Marketers Perpetual Accounting System (COMPAS). Then, he dedicates his life to evolving and refining it to serve wholesale petroleum distributors’ complex accounting needs. News of its success spreads, helping transform the petroleum distribution software industry.
It’s 2005, COMPAS undergoes a complete transformation
to incorporate a true windows environment, using the latest Microsoft technology, leading to a stronger, more efficient, and flexible software aptly named, COMPAS Commander.
Where is AIMS today? Well, we’re still evolving and customizing our software products to meet wholesale petroleum distributors’ multi-dimensional needs. And frankly, we love it. Our clients prove to us again and again that our software helps their businesses thrive and increase their profits. It enables them to adapt quickly because of the data confidence that Commander affords them. We’re proud to continue the legacy of Dr. Bob’s innovative, results-focused, and client-serving software, under the helm of his son, president and CEO, Robert Canterbury.
