How to assess what it’d be like to work with new accounting software partner?

Dec 9, 2021

Wouldn’t it be great to know exactly what to expect every time you enter a new business partnership?

While you can’t find out everything about a potential partner online, there are some things you can do to learn more about them.

First, think about all of your current business partners and vendors. Which ones do you enjoy working with the most?

Next, think about what makes those relationships so productive and positive. Now, keep these items in mind while assessing whether your new accounting software partner is a right fit for you.

Here’s a list of the most important things to know about your future accounting software partner.

Do they get back to you quickly?

When you reached out to them, did they return your call in a reasonable amount of time? This is a clear window into how they might treat you should you experience any support issues. If they are prompt and clear in all their communications, chances are you’ll be well cared for while working with them. Learn everything you can about their support helpdesk operations and customer response times.

Are they pleasant and friendly in your interactions?

Do they exchange pleasantries? Do they ask how your day is going and your family’s health? Do they treat you as a person first and a customer second? These are important things to observe while interacting with the team. These types of exchanges are critical to building trust in any relationship. It seems safe to say that employees typically perform better for people they know and care about. Let’s face it: sharing is caring and though it may seem a small thing, it means they’ll also care about your business.

Do they listen to the information you share with them and ask you pertinent questions?

Do they make sounds that show they’re listening? Do they maintain eye contact? Do they ask questions that make the interaction better? We all need to be seen and heard, especially when we’re trying to get business done. And it’s rather obvious when someone isn’t paying attention. Be sure to note which behaviors you’re experiencing and witnessing. Again, if they can’t be present this early in the process, can you really count on them in the future?

Do they make serious efforts to understand your business and objectives?

Do they have a process for collecting and documenting all the information you share with them about your business? Or are you going to have to repeat yourself every time you call them? It’s vital that whichever software partner you work with has a process to capture and retain the information you give them. A sure way to tell is to ask them how they onboard new clients and implement the new accounting software.

Are they capable of scaling with your company as you grow?

Do they have enough staff to properly allocate resources? Are their processes scalable? Most companies will shy away from directly answering these types of questions. If they do, be sure to visit their website, social channels and Google My Business to glean more info and read customer reviews. Better yet, search their website for testimonials and cases studies. Then, look up their customers online to assess their size and how many years they’ve been using this accounting software.

Will they be around for the long haul?

How long have they been in business? Who owns them? How long have their employees been with the company? After investing time and money into your new accounting software, you’d like to avoid the chance of them going bankrupt, closing shop or getting acquired by another company, all of which will impact your software and service. Again, look to their website for more info on their history and team members as well as ask around your industry associations about the company.

Lastly, if you have any questions while searching for your next accounting software, please don’t hesitate to call or email Annette at 318.807.9313 or akesler@aims1.com. She’s a wealth of information and would love to share it with you!
